Tyler Farr, ‘Hot Mess’ – Lyrics Uncovered

The lyrics to Tyler Farr’s debut single ‘Hot Mess’ were penned by the Songwriters of the Year — Rhett Akins (BMI), Dallas Davidson (BMI) and Ben Hayslip (ASCAP) — better known around Nashville as the Peach Pickers. The catchy tune grabbed the attention of Farr immediately, and he cut the song and released it as the first single from his forthcoming album on BNA Records.

“That song started at the Key West songwriters festival in ’09,” Akins tells Taste of Country. “That’s the first I heard that term. I heard it like six or seven times in Key West … ‘Oh, that dude, he’s a hot mess’ or ‘She’s a hot mess.’ I didn’t really get it at first, but then I heard it a couple of times and saw the people they were talking about, so I just had that in my head. So when I came back, I had that title.”

“Deer meat and turkey meat and anything wild is about as good as you can get,” Rhett Akins, an avid outdoorsman and hunter, tells Taste of Country when speaking of his wild turkey breast recipe. “The No. 1 main reason this recipe is cool is because you went out and got it yourself. You didn’t go to the grocery store and buy it. You spent hours and sometimes days or weeks trying to get the turkey. So it’s cool to know that you went out and did it on your own, like back in the old days.”

“Plus, I just like how it tastes,” Akins adds. “They’re eating only what nature provides. They’re not being fed by any humans or getting steroids. It’s just the real deal.”

Rhett Akins Invites Jake Owen, Dierks Bentley + More to Annual Country Goes Huntin’ Charity Turkey Hunt

Later this week, Rhett Akins and his famous pals from the music and hunting world will join forces for his 11th annual charity turkey hunt, Country Goes Huntin’. Like the previous 10 years, the event will consist of a three day turkey hunt (March 22-24) in Dothan, Ala. There, pro hunters will pair with country singers/songwriters for a good time and, more importantly, a great cause.

Since Akins and his Country Goes Huntin’ co-founder Sam Klement started the event, it has evolved into something many artists, songwriters and hunters clear their schedule for year after year. Country Goes Huntin’ will start off with a Winchester 21-gun salute at camp, followed by Daryle Singletary singing the national anthem while Sergeant First Class Dana Bowman (retired from the Special Forces and the Golden Nights) conducts his emotional Jump for the Heroes parachute jump.

Following the hunt, the celebrities will come together for an all-star acoustic jam set on March 25, which is open to the public and will benefit Wounded Warriors.
